Managing Budgets and Spending
How budgets work
A budget is a monthly spending limit for one transaction category. As you log spending, Cisti adds it up and shows you where you are against the limit.
Setting one up
- Open Budgets.
- Click Add Budget.
- Pick a transaction type (Groceries, say) and set a monthly limit in euro.
- Save.
One budget per category is the usual approach, but there's no cap on how many you can create.
Reading a budget row
Each row shows what you've spent this month, the cap, a progress bar that turns colour as you approach the limit, and the percentage.
| Colour | What it means |
|---|---|
| Green | Under 90% spent. On track. |
| Orange | 90 to 100%. Approaching the cap. |
| Red | Over 100%. Over budget. |
Editing or deleting
The ⋮ menu on any row lets you change the limit or delete the budget.
Tips
- Start with the categories where you actually spend money. Rent, groceries, dining out. Don't bother with €10 a month for stationery.
- Review limits after each payday. The first month's numbers are usually wrong.
- The dashboard stat card goes red the moment any one category busts its limit, so the headline is always honest.
